The Ripefruit Maternity Wear Story so far...

When I was pregnant it was nearly impossible to find affordable and stylish maternity clothes. That's how I started my website. I purchased 5 or 6 designer items and as they were such good quality, after I had my son I decided to sell them as second hand on my site and they sold in no time.

I spent forever searching for items that I could mix and match to ensure I had a comfortable but stylish wardrobe for those important months during pregnancy.

As you all know, new maternity clothes are expensive considering they are going to be worn for such a short time. That's when I came up with the idea to specialise in pre-loved (second hand) maternity wear.

The garments on sale are always in excellent condition, without stains or marks and freshly laundered. Well known brands at very affordable prices including Ripe, Pea in a Pod, Frou Frou, Ciao Bella, Room 4 2, Additions, Belly Basics, Mu Mu, Patch and Motherhood just to name a few.  I try to offer Australian made and designed maternity clothes but sometimes I offer European designer brands at a fraction of their cost, including Howard Showers and Gap.

Many of my customers are working mums so I always try to have available funky corporate items that you can match up with your casual clothes and make a great collection of maternity wear that can be worn together for a completely different look. You can always grab a bargain on my site.

Friends are always asking me about Ripefruit Maternity and what made me think to start selling second hand pregnancy clothes online. Well, as I mentioned earlier, the idea of selling maternity clothes second hand came to me during my own pregnancy, but it took much more than an idea to get our shop going.

The most important lesson I learnt was how to generate traffic (like your goodself) to my web site. I discovered that even though everyone may be looking for the same thing, they each search for something different. For example, one person might search for "maternity clothing australia" whereas the next would search for "maternity clothes australia". Now this may seem like a small thing, but the difference is traffic numbers can be huge.

Ripefruit Maternity has now made a name for itself, and the hardwork has paid off as customers keep coming back. We can tell that by the number of searches directly for our business name, what a compliment. Then there is the old competitor with a similar name 'ripe maternity wear'. They once wrote to us, demanding we stop using their name, so we replied explaining that our business (Ripefruit) was much older than ripe (some 10 years older) plus we are ripefruit not ripe! Oddly, they never responded.

We have a lot of fun too interacting with our pregnant ladies who are searching for maternity wear & accessories right across Australia. We have customers in all states from Melbourne to Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin and even down in Tasmania. So, have you guessed what these last few paragraphs are for? Yes, they are what we call in the industry, optimised content that include the special words and phrases that people search for, like second hand pregnancy, maternity bathers, maternity sale, mother and me and maternity clothes second hand which were some of our most searched for terms in 2008.

Some people search straight for an item like maternity pants, maternity wear pants size 18, maternity bathers (very popular this year), corporate maternity wear, maternity dresses affordable, maternity dress cheap and maternity clothes for sale, so as you can see, we all look for something a little different.
